Teaching Philosophy
Potential new students start with a taster class before making a commitment to a weekly class and examination pathway. Taster classes are chargeable but allow students/parents to test out my teaching approach and ensure it suits their individual learning style! Teacher and learner rapport is vital to 1:1 learning and students must feel comfortable, safe and trust my expertise. Taster classes also enable me to ascertain the most appropriate LAMDA starting grade - essential to those brand new to LAMDA.
The exam criteria is explained in detail during Lesson 1 to enable students a clear direction towards expectations.
Every LAMDA lesson is tailored to the individual to reach their learning goals as well as a working toward a successful LAMDA qualification! Guidance will be given on selections to perform, with the learner's wishes and opinions all being part of the final choices.
I am meticulous in ensuring all the skills & theory appropriate to the chosen exam is taught before tackling the required elements of the LAMDA syllabus itself. In short, the learning outcomes will be explored in depth and to a greater degree before work on individual monologues, poems or speeches begin. Giving the learner a comprehensive & broad understanding of everything they will need to know.
Lessons begin with physical & vocal warm up activities, along with drama style games. These activities encourage confidence, spacial awareness, vocal modulation development & expression. They are also fun for children and build trust!
Individual lesson plans ensure the learner has the necessary skills in engaging, communicating and performing with developed skills in voice, movement, facial expressions, characterisation etc. The knowledge or theory aspect of the examination is extensively covered to ensure complete confidence of what to expect on the exam day. Students prepare the knowledge in a Google Document and this is shared between student & teacher allowing feedback and guidance to be communicated effectively.
New learning must be fun, engaging and challenging, regardless of the learners age. I endeavour to offer all of the above and will be with you every step of your LAMDA qualification!
